Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What hours do you keep?
A. Well, I make hay when the sun shines. In this line of work sometimes the sun shines at night and on the weekends. Sometimes the sun shines sixty hours a week. I do what I can to accomodate difficult schedules.
Q. What do you charge?
A. Well that depends. I charge up to $5 on anything I buy for my clients. I charge $35 to reload an operating system. I charge $25 to backup data not including the cost of backup media. A motherboard replacement is generally $60 just in labor plus the cost of parts. I charge $20 in labor to replace a damaged or otherwise unacceptable laptop screen. These are just common things I do and the general prices I charge. Much of what I charge is dictated by how much the parts cost. One motherboard I replaced for a client cost $220 plus $60 in labor. CPU fans can range in price from $5 cost to $90 and if I have to remove the motherboard to replace the fan then the labor charge will reflect that.
Q. How long will the repair take?
A. I ask for a minimum of four days from when I have everything I need and no longer than a week or there is no labor charge. Many will get done before four days, but I'd rather get done early and impress my clients or in the worst case scenario meet their expectations.
Q. Do you have a warranty?
A. Sort of. I promise to give you a quality repair. I will graciously go over any work I have completed that you feel is unsatisfactory. I stand by my work. On parts, I extend to you the warranty given to me. If I get 90 days from my supplier, then that is my warranty period on parts. If I get only get 30 days, then that short period is unfortunately my warranty that I can pass on to you.
Q. How do you feel about Vista?
A. I hate it and recommend upgrading on newer hardware and downgrading on older hardware. I will work on machines with Vista if absolutely necessary, but you cannot make me like it. Next question.
